What is the best treatment for chronic back pain??

I was in a recent mvc and been having back pain since. I got steroid injections as follow up but has not really helped the discomfort. Any other suggestions??

Talk to your dr about physical therapy…this is definitely another option to drugs…

Have you tried using heat and cold compresses. They sometimes help with your mucsle relaxants.

PT is something worth trying. Also, short term use of Soma (or another muscle relaxer) might be of help. Hot baths help me.

many chiropractors are especially trained to help people who are victims of injury

In my experience, physical therapy coupled with resistance training to strengthen the back has worked the best. Drugs kill the pain depending on severity, but muscle relaxers will often destabilize the back and slow recovery, as you’ll be inclined not to be able to hold it in a stable position. Strengthen the muscles in the back as well as abdominal muscles in front (supports the back by balancing the weight load). I have degenerative disk disease and have been in a serious car accident years ago, and I have tried all sorts of things, including a chiropractor, drugs and the above. While the pain never completely goes away, I find I have more mobility and ability to use my back with the physical training option than I ever did with passive treatment. I also lately took up yoga, which is very good for balance and can help you stand and move correctly so your back pain does not worsen.

Also, steroid injections are temporary and eventually will break down the tissues into which they are injected. I don’t recommend them for long-term use. I did not get relief with cortisone, so I did not continue with it.
